TBDAbout Clint Black:
Clint Black is a Grammy-winning country music singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose sharp songwriting and traditional sound helped define country music’s new wave in the late 1980s and early 1990s. Born on February 4, 1962, in Long Branch, New Jersey, and raised in Katy, Texas, Black was drawn to music early, teaching himself guitar and harmonica while developing his knack for lyricism.
His breakthrough came in 1989 with his debut album Killin’ Time, a game-changing release that produced five straight No. 1 singles, including “A Better Man,” “Nobody’s Home,” and the title track. The album became a cornerstone of the neotraditionalist movement and earned Black widespread acclaim, setting the tone for a career built on integrity, craftsmanship, and consistent chart success.
Black quickly became one of country’s leading male artists, winning the CMA Horizon Award and Male Vocalist of the Year early in his career. Throughout the '90s, he delivered a string of platinum albums and No. 1 hits including “When My Ship Comes In,” “Like the Rain,” and “Nothin’ but the Taillights.” His tight, clever songwriting—often in collaboration with his wife, actress and singer Lisa Hartman Black—became a signature.
Beyond his singing and writing talents, Black is also a skilled guitarist and producer, taking full control of his sound early on in his career. He was one of the first country artists to maintain significant creative control over his music, producing much of his own material and establishing his own record label, Equity Music Group, in the early 2000s.
Though his mainstream radio presence slowed in the 2000s, Black continued to record, tour, and expand his creative reach into acting and TV appearances. He released new albums like On Purpose (2015) and Out of Sane (2020), proving his artistry remained sharp and relevant decades into his career.
A longtime member of the Grand Ole Opry and a respected elder statesman of the genre, Clint Black's legacy is built on timeless songwriting, traditional country values, and an unwavering dedication to his craft.
