About Cody Johnson:

Cody Johnson is a Texas-born country artist whose gritty vocals, cowboy authenticity, and blend of traditional country with modern edge have made him one of the genre’s most respected independent success stories. Born on May 21, 1987, in Sebastopol, Texas, Johnson grew up on rodeos and old-school country music, shaping both his sound and work ethic long before his rise to national attention.

Before breaking into the mainstream, Johnson worked as a prison guard and competed in amateur rodeo, writing songs and recording albums independently with his band, the Cody Johnson Band. His grassroots following steadily grew through relentless touring and self-released albums, including Cowboy Like Me (2014), which marked his arrival on the Billboard charts.

Johnson’s big breakthrough came in 2016 when he became the first independent artist to sell out Houston Rodeo’s massive NRG Stadium. That milestone led to a major-label deal with Warner Music Nashville, but Johnson held onto the same core sound—authentic, heartfelt, and unapologetically country. His major-label debut, Ain’t Nothin’ to It (2019), featured the hit “On My Way to You” and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums chart.

Known for his powerful live performances and emotional songwriting, Johnson continued to win over fans with his 2021 double album Human: The Double Album. The record included the standout hit “’Til You Can’t,” which won Single of the Year at the 2022 CMA Awards and marked his first No. 1 at country radio—cementing him as more than just a Texas favorite.

With a sound steeped in fiddle, steel guitar, and hard-earned truth, Johnson represents a new era of country artists who bring tradition forward with a fresh perspective. He’s been praised for staying true to his roots while expanding his reach to a national audience without compromising his cowboy image or independent spirit.

Whether performing for tens of thousands or recording songs that speak to the working class, Cody Johnson has built a career on authenticity, resilience, and heart—qualities that continue to define his place in modern country music.
