About Collin Raye:
Collin Raye is a country music singer known for his soaring tenor voice, emotionally charged ballads, and a run of major hits in the 1990s that made him one of the era’s most beloved voices. Born Floyd Elliot Wray on August 22, 1960, in De Queen, Arkansas, and raised in Texas, Raye was exposed to music early through his mother, a musician who once performed with rockabilly pioneer Wanda Jackson.
Before launching his solo career, Raye performed with his brother in a band called The Wray Brothers Band, which had regional success in the 1980s. By the early ’90s, he had signed with Epic Records and adopted the stage name Collin Raye. His debut single, “All I Can Be (Is a Sweet Memory),” arrived in 1991, but it was the follow-up, “Love, Me,” that became his breakthrough—a heartfelt ballad that hit No. 1 and remains a fan favorite.
Throughout the decade, Raye delivered a steady stream of chart-topping singles and platinum-selling albums. Songs like “In This Life,” “Little Rock,” “That’s My Story,” and “I Can Still Feel You” showcased his ability to move seamlessly between tender ballads and upbeat tracks. His vocal power and emotional delivery helped define the softer side of ’90s country.
Beyond his hits, Raye became known for tackling meaningful themes in his music. “Little Rock” addressed addiction and recovery, while “What If Jesus Comes Back Like That” challenged societal judgments. He often used his platform to raise awareness for causes close to his heart, particularly children’s health and disability advocacy, inspired by his late daughter Haley.
Though his commercial peak was in the ’90s, Raye continued recording and touring in the years that followed, releasing faith-based albums, acoustic collections, and original material well into the 2000s and 2010s. His 2020 album Scars featured guest appearances from Miranda Lambert and Vince Gill, marking his first release of all-new material in over a decade.
With over 16 No. 1 hits and a reputation for vocal excellence and emotional depth, Collin Raye remains a standout voice from country’s golden ‘90s era—an artist whose songs continue to resonate with fans old and new.
